"What about my Koi?"
The temperatures are falling now and everything else is starting to slow down, including your fish. If you are the person that likes to feed their fish at least twice a day, then please start weaning your fish. They don't need to eat as much so you can reduce the amount they eat. I have a lot of people calling me right now asking me "what should I do with my Koi because of the recent cold temperatures"? Don't worry, your Koi will be fine. Overfeeding is the most common mistake when keeping Koi. I recommend not feeding them fish food when the temperature of the water drops below 55 degrees. When the temperature is this low, the Koi's metabolism slows to a minimum, reducing the fish's ability to sufficiently digest or process what they consume. But Koi are a very hardy fish. As the temperature drops, the Koi will move into the deeper parts of the pond (the earth warms the bottom of the pond). They will remain awake and mobile but their metabolism slows drastically to conserve body heat, which means that processing food is difficult for them. We are lucky here in Florida, the pond will not freeze with ice forming on the top like up North. The two foot deep ponds we build have never had any problems with keeping the fish comfortable. You need to make sure that the water in your pond is constantly circulating , which will provide oxygen for the fish. If your fish are hungry, let them munch on the algae. It will help keep your pond looking good too!

Vanishing Fountains
We've finally found it! Beauty now meets Form, Function and Budget. Too many times we've heard people say "We just don't have the room for a waterfall" or "We can't afford a pond right now" or "all I want is the sound of water at a price I can afford." Well we've found it. It fits the space, budget and aesthetics. It is called the "Vanishing Fountain". Basically the Vanishing Fountain is a fountain, statuary, pot or any rock formation that you can think of that will sit on top of a buried underground reservoir called a DuraBasin. The space requirements only measure three feet by three feet and can be as short or tall as you want. You can bury the DuraBasin under the ground and give the fountain a "Vanishing" look or set it ontop of your deck or patio for close up viewing and maximum sound effects. All that is required to install a Vanishing fountain system is 1)DuraBasin 2)850 gph pump 3)tubing 4) silicone sealant 5) Fountain piece and less than a half a day to install. Check out some our Vanishing Fountain pictures online or come by the store to see our display in person.

Got Heron?
Do you have uninvited guests visiting your pond? And are they feasting on your scaly pets? Yes, it is that time of the year when the Heron are here in numbers and they will find food to eat. Here are a few safe and effective ways to keep the Heron from your pond or garden. 1) The scarecrow motion detector can be set to "spot" intruders up to thirty feet away and will release a 3 second burst of water to scare away any unwanted visitors...including neighbors. 2) The floating alligator is a three hinged alligator body that floats freely in the water and safely deters pond predators. The floating alligator is 34" long and is very realistic looking. 3) The Heron Decoy is a look alike decoy that detours additional Heron from landing in the same feeding area. All options listed above are safe for all animals and people and are much more aesthetically pleasing than other options and they blend into your gardens.
